Year 8 Thai Trip to Ayyuthaya

On Thursday 29 January, Ms. Muay, Ms. Kae and Nurse Ellie took students on a field trip to Phra Nakhon Sri Ayutthaya Province to visit and pay
respects at Phukhao Thong Chedi, which the students had studied in Nirat Phukhao Thong, composed by Sunthorn Phu, Thailand’s national
poet, in their Thai language class. The students studied the travel route and important landmarks to use as inspiration for composing their own
nirat. The group then travelled to Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon, an ancient temple of great historical significance, closely associated with the heroic
deeds of King Naresuan in defending the Thai kingdom. After that, the students experienced the atmosphere of local life along the canal and
tasted Ayutthaya boat noodles at a canal-side noodle shop. In the afternoon, the students took part in a workshop to learn how to make luk
chup, a traditional Thai dessert that expresses artistic creativity through Thai confectionery. The activity was enjoyable and relaxing, and the
students brought their finished pieces home for their parents to admire.
